BIOGRAPHY
The French-born Brussels-based artist Annabelle Milon (1988) studied printmaking at the art school La Cambre in Brussels, and was also trained in photography at the Mimar Sinan University in Istanbul. Milon produces installations of woodcut prints, series of work in photogravure and etching and sculpture on various mediums. Contrasting images with other ones, thoroughly investigating contents and contexts, is the basis of her work. Her original interest is to unlock the possibilities of printmaking, and also to propose this technique as sculpture, a tangible and analog version of a methodical process of deconstruction, involving digital processes but above all intertwining mediums, ideas and obsessions. She has received different mentions, grants and awards: among them, the grant from the Fondation de France (Paris) in 2013 which allowed her to set up a printmaking studio in Brussels, in 2014 the La Louvière Printmaking Museum Prize, in 2016 the Louis Schmidt Prize awarded by the University of Brussels and in 2023 she was chosen and supported by Wallonie-Brussels International as resident visual artist at the Cité Internationale des Arts in Paris. Since 2022, her studio is based at Brasserie Atlas (a collective art space) in Brussels and since April 2023, she is assistant in the printmaking department at the art school La Cambre in Brussels.
